Telehealth & Licensing

Last updated: —

Template notice — action required: Cross-state telehealth licensing is highly fact-specific and governed by each state's medical board. The states listed below are placeholders. Before publishing, confirm with your compliance team and counsel exactly which states each of your clinicians is licensed in, and update the "Where we can provide care" section to match. Providing telehealth to a patient physically located in a state where the treating clinician is not licensed may violate that state's law.

What Telehealth Is

Telehealth is the delivery of health-care services using secure audio and/or video technology when you and the clinician are in different locations. At Bedside Physicians, telehealth may be used for appropriate visits such as follow-ups, medication management, certain evaluations, and care coordination.

Where We Can Provide Care (State Licensing)

Clinicians may provide care only where they are licensed. In general, the state where you are physically located at the time of the visit — not where you live or where we are based — determines which clinician may treat you. If you will be in a different state at the time of your appointment, tell us in advance so we can confirm a licensed clinician is available or arrange an alternative.

Currently, our clinicians are licensed to provide care to patients located in:

Georgia [confirm and add any additional states — this list is a placeholder]

If you are located outside the states where our clinicians are licensed at the time of a requested visit, we may not be able to provide telehealth care and will help you find appropriate options.

Consent to Telehealth

Before or at the start of a telehealth visit, you will be asked to consent to receiving care in this format. By consenting, you acknowledge that:

  • Telehealth has potential benefits (convenience, access) and limitations, including that a clinician may be unable to perform a physical examination and may determine that an in-person visit is necessary.
  • Technical problems may interrupt or affect a visit, and a visit may be discontinued if the clinician judges the technology or circumstances inadequate for safe care.
  • You have the right to withhold or withdraw consent to telehealth at any time without affecting your right to future care.
  • The same confidentiality protections described in our Notice of Privacy Practices apply to telehealth visits.
  • You are responsible for being in a private, safe location and for providing an accurate physical location at the time of the visit (which is important for licensing and for directing emergency help if needed).

Not for Emergencies

Telehealth is not for emergencies. If you have a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. For mental-health crises, call or text 988.

Prescribing

Any prescribing during telehealth is at the clinician's professional discretion and follows applicable federal and state law, including limits on prescribing certain controlled substances via telehealth. A clinician may decline to prescribe and may require an in-person visit.

Technology and Privacy

We use technology intended to protect the privacy and security of your visit. No electronic communication is completely secure, and by participating you accept the inherent risks of internet-based communication. Do not record a visit without the clinician's consent.

Cost and Coverage

Telehealth visits may be self-pay or billed to insurance depending on the service and your plan. Coverage for telehealth varies by payer and state. You are responsible for amounts not covered by your plan.
